National Center for the Safe Transportation of Children with Special Health Care Needs

Challenges arise when a child requires special accommodations for positioning in a child restraint. Adaptive restraints have been developed for many circumstances and continuing research and education is needed to improve safety for affected children. Learn about recent research on resources for transporting children who require casts and infants with complex medical needs in car beds and other restraints. New resources for training technicians about how to evaluate children with special medical needs and selection of adaptive restraints will be presented. The current status of the American Academy of Pediatrics policy and guidance for child passenger safety will be provided.
